Tram Route Final Design
In June 2008 tie held eight presentations on the final detailed design of the tram route. 65,000 personal invitations were sent out covering all sections of the route.

As part of this entire programme with local communities over 130,000 people were invited to participate in the development of the tram design. Click here to view a list of approved drawings, which are available on the city of Edinburgh Council’s Planning Portal website.

A Design Manual, showing the principles of design to be followed when planning and building Edinburgh’s high quality tram network, has been published.

Developed by the City of Edinburgh Council, in discussion with tie Limited, the tram system operators TRANSDEV, Historic Scotland, and subject to ongoing community consultation, the manual will ensure that trams make a positive contribution to Edinburgh’s outstanding cultural status and environment.

The manual addresses design principles for tram stops, depots, trackside equipment and tram vehicles and will ensure that the tram is as accessible as possible to all sections of the community, including those with disabilities.

A Tram Design Working Group has been formed involving the Council, tie Limited, the tram system designers, Historic Scotland and other relevant bodies. This group will give advice and help to ensure that there is a joined up approach to the design process throughout the project.
