Network Construction
Following the completion of the work to move the utility apparatus, construction of the tram network will start.
tie limited has appointed BBS (a consortium comprising Bilfinger Berger and Siemens Group) to carry out the construction and maintenance of Edinburgh’s tram network.
The Edinburgh trams infrastructure contract is one of the largest construction contracts in the UK, and has been subject to intensive negotiations, ensuring the best deal for Edinburgh.
BBS is a formidable consortium made up of two global companies that have delivered some of the most exciting and challenging infrastructure projects across the world. Members of the BBS consortium have played a major role in the construction of over 30 urban transport schemes around the world, in countries including France, Portugal, USA, China, Turkey, Taiwan and Mexico.
As part of the planning phase for this contract, information was gathered from businesses and residents likely to be impacted by the trams. A detailed construction programme, accommodating this feedback, is ensuring continued access to those living and working along the route, and businesses large and small.
