Final Route Corridor
As part of the public consultation, views were sought as to whether trams should run along Clerk Street or Buccleuch Street and how trams should be routed at Inch Park.
Following public consultation and discussions with businesses, community groups and residents, Line Three will run along Clerk Street and around the northern perimeter of Inch Park.
Clerk Street
Reflecting the results of the public consultation which indicated 54% of respondents in favour of Clerk Street and 16% in favour of Buccleuch Street, Line Three will travel from the city centre to Newcraighall via Clerk Street.
There will also be additional stops between High Street and Newington as a result of consultation with residents and businesses, as this will better serve shops and the local community.
Along Clerk Street the tram will share a lane in each direction with general traffic and the lanes nearest the footpaths will serve a combination of uses along their length, including bus lay-bys, tram stops, and loading/parking bays. |

Inch Park
The public consultation responses showed no clear preference for either option in Inch Park, but as a result of wide-ranging discussions with interested parties and a specialist working group comprising representatives from tie, transport and environmental consultants, City of Edinburgh Council officials and Historic Scotland, tie has amended the final route alignment to follow the northern perimeter of Inch Park close to Cameron Toll Shopping Centre.
The final route significantly reduces encroachment of the park (to approximately only 1 metre) and reduces tree loss.
At the east end of the park the park wall will reconstructed as part of the Braid Burn Flood Prevention Scheme, enabling the tram to run down the west side of Old Dalkeith Road, outwith the park boundary. The existing entrance to the park will be reserved for pedestrians and cyclists and a new vehicle entrance created further south. |
